Vice President Ma'ruf: We Want A Safe And Conducive Papua

JAKARTA - Vice President (Wapres) Ma'ruf Amin instructed a new approach to the security sector in Papua and West Papua during a coordination meeting, at the Vice Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday, December 15.

"As you know, that we are now making efforts to stay focused on welfare, with a new approach in the security sector," said the Vice President while chairing the meeting, at the Vice Presidential Palace, Jakarta, as reported by Antara.

The new approach, said the Vice President, puts more emphasis on the strategy of using territory through a humanist and dialogical approach.

"The approach is more humanistic and dialogical with the community, especially with traditional leaders, religious leaders, education leaders, women and youth leaders," he said.

During the meeting, the Vice President outlined input from the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) General Andika Perkasa and Army Chief of Staff (Kasad) Lt. Gen. Dudung Abdurachman.

"The essence of the new approach is that the TNI security forces are not fighting against the KKB (Armed Criminal Group), but are embracing the KKB as part of this nation," said the vice president.

According to the Vice President as Chair of the Steering Committee of the Integrated Coordination Team for the Acceleration of Welfare Development in Papua, the development program will not run if security conditions are not conducive.

Therefore, the Vice President hopes that this new approach to security conditions can make the Land of Papua safer.

"I hope that this new, more humane approach can really be realized, and we want a safe, conducive Papua, so that the welfare development work program can be completed immediately," said the Vice President. In addition, the Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko, TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa, Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Budi Gunawan, Kasad Lieutenant General TNI Dudung Abdurachman, and Chief of Naval Staff (Kasal) Marshal TNI Fadjar Prasetyo were also present.
