Anies Reveals 4 Main Points Of Jakarta Transportation Development

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan revealed that there are at least four main points in the development of an inclusive and sustainable public transportation system in the Capital City.

"One, ensuring that everyone can access public transportation within 500 meters from wherever they are," Anies said via the TEDx Talks YouTube channel, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 15.

The second point is the increase in the use of public transport from 25 percent to 60 percent in 2030.

The third point is to replace all conventional engine buses with electric buses by 2030

"Now we have 30 electric buses in trials," he said.

While the fourth point is to target a 500-kilometer bicycle path by 2030.

Currently, Jakarta is recorded to have 64 kilometers of bicycle lanes with a target of 101 kilometers next year.

"Our success in this transformation is not only achieved by adding lanes, adding buses or building shelters, that's the easy part. The toughest and biggest task is to ensure our transportation system is fully integrated," said Anies.

Anies said that in the past Jakarta had many public transportation systems, but they were not integrated and the public transportation system at that time was operated by various agencies and companies, most of which run independently.

"So, we solved this problem by building the JakLingko program. JakLingko is an efficient and integrated transportation system consisting of three things, integrated routes, integrated prices and integrated management," said Anies.

The integrated public transportation system has also won Jakarta the prestigious world-class Sustainable Transport Award (STA) from the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy and the Sustainable Transport Committee.

Jakarta won second place at STA 2020, with the first place occupied by the City of Pune in India.

Jakarta then managed to take first place in the 2021 Sustainable Transport Award for the best progress category in the field of public transportation.

Jakarta succeeded in eliminating cities in the world that were competing in the STA event, such as Adis Ababa, Bogota, Auckland, Braga, Buenos Aires, Frankfurt, Sao Paulo and so on.

STA is an annual award given to cities that have demonstrated commitment, political will and vision in the field of sustainable urban transportation for the past two years (18 months).

The spirit of the STA event is to celebrate cities with all their limitations insisting on realizing a fair and affordable transportation system for all citizens regardless of age, gender, economic and physical ability.

Jakarta is considered to have implemented an ambitious intermodal integration program for public transportation for the past few years.
