The Attorney of Novel Baswedan's Acid Attack Case Died of Diabetes

JAKARTA - Robertino Fedrik Adhar Syaripuddin passed away today. He was a prosecutor who handled the acid water attack case against Novel Baswedan.

"It is our brother, Robertino Fedrik Adhar Syaripuddin, who has passed away today at around 11.00 WIB," Hari Setiyono said in his statement, Monday, August 17.

Hari said that Fedrik died of diabetes. Before his death, he was the Head of the Sub-Section for the North Jakarta District Prosecutor's Office.

"Complications of diabetes," said Hari.

Hari continued, Fedrik died while being treated at the Pondok Indah Bintaro Hospital. "Hopefully Khusnul khotimah," he added.

Fedrik Adhar became known since he handled the case of acid attack on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator, Novel Baswedan, by Rahmat Kadir Mahulette and Ronny Bugis.

At that time, Fedrik Adhar was the Public Prosecutor (JPU). He accused the two men, Rahmat Kadir Mahulette and Rony Bugis, for one year in prison.

In the indictment, Rahmat's actions were deemed proven to have fulfilled the elements of maltreatment with planning. And, it resulted in serious injuries. He used sulfuric acid or H2SO4 to injure Novel Baswedan. Meanwhile, Rony had been involved in the act of persecution because he helped the persecution process.

The trial process for the case has become a polemic. The public prosecutor's demand for one year in prison to the two defendants is considered very light.

The action was considered to be subject to serious persecution. It was planned and caused serious injury to one of Novel Baswedan's eyes. It was complied with Article 353 of the Criminal Code paragraph 2. However, the prosecutor used Article 353 of the Criminal Code Paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) 1st KUHP.

Finally, during a verdict at the North Jakarta District Court, Rahmat and Ronny were sentenced to 2 years in prison. This verdict was heavier than Fedrik's demands.

Besides, he was also a prosecutor for the case of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok.
