Together With Ganjar Pranowo, Jokowi Plants Shallots In Temanggung
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inspects a food barn or food estate in Temanggung Regency, Central Java.
On that occasion, he had time to plant shallots with farmers accompanied by the Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo and other officials such as Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo to Minister of PUPR Basuki Hadimuljono.
"I am together with the Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Public Works, Governor of Central Java, Regent of Temanggung and farmers together to plant shallots that we are doing in Temanggung Regency," Jokowi said as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Tuesday, December 14.
The former governor of DKI Jakarta explained that the food estate has an area of 339 hectares. Jokowi said the process of planting food barns would later be accompanied by the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) so that productivity would increase.
In addition, to prevent price games that harm farmers by middlemen, Jokowi asked the Ministry of Agriculture to prepare buyers directly.
"The most important thing is to prepare those who buy from the shallots that we have planted earlier so that the price is certain, there is certainty who buys it, and the prices are not manipulated by middlemen," he said.
With this step, he hopes that the income of farmers will increase. Moreover, the Ministry of Agriculture has tried to provide the best shallot seeds so that it is expected to make farmers more productive.
"We hope that with better productivity, intervention in seeds, it is hoped that income, farmers' income will increase," said Jokowi.
"I will look at this after harvesting because we can confirm that when the harvest has occurred per hectare, how many tons (production, ed) will be, then how much will the production cost, so that it is true that the farmers will benefit from planting shallots," he concluded.
