COVID-19 Cases In India Have Reached 2.5 Million People
NEW DELHI - The number of COVID-19 cases in India has exceeded 2.5 million. There were an additional 57,381 cases in the last 24 hours.
The total number of cases has now reached 2,526,192, according to data from the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, quoted by Antara, Saturday, August 15.
With nearly 1,000 new deaths, the total death toll from COVID-19 in the country stands at 49,036.
India is still the third country in the world with the highest number of corona cases after the United States and Brazil.
The Indian government conducted more than 2.8 million tests for COVID-19, including 868,679 tests as of Friday, according to the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR).
The state of Maharshtra has been hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic with more than 500,000 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
The number of infections has also risen sharply in a number of other states.
On Friday, the joint secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Lav Agarwal, tested positive for the coronavirus.
Over the past six months, Agarwal has held a press conference regarding the COVID-19 report as a representative of the government.
On his Twitter account, he tweeted that he was in self-quarantine according to the COVID-19 guidelines after testing positive.
