Police Arrest Man Who Admits Journalist Extorting Trenggalek Residents With Infidelity Issues
TRENGGALEK - The Trenggalek Police, East Java arrested two men who claimed to be journalists with the initials MYD (39) and DS (35), for extorting residents under the pretext of infidelity.
"We arrested both of them after receiving a complaint from the victim (initials EUP)," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Trenggalek Police AKP Arief Wicaksono, quoted by Antara, Monday, December 13.
The perpetrators, residents of Sumenep (MYD) and Tulungagung (DS), are currently being held in the Trenggalek Police Headquarters detention cell with suspect status.
The police confiscated a number of evidences in the form of screenshots of extortion conversations, proof of transfers from EUP victims to MYD's accounts, as well as cellphones and press cards of the Cyber Nusantara News (CNN) editor used by MYD as the Chief Editor and DS as (journalists), the executor on duty in the field. .
In their action, MYD and DS jointly extorted the victim. They asked EUP for IDR 25 million on the pretext of being involved in an extramarital affair. The money was asked for silence.
"The two suspects jointly carried out extortion and/or threats against the victim," said AKP Arief.
As a result of the actions of the two perpetrators, the victim, who was in a depressed position, transferred Rp2 million to the perpetrator's account.
However, after they met each other, the two perpetrators could not prove their accusations against the victim. The EUP victim then reported the extortion and threats to the police.
"Finally, the victim reported the incident, and we secured the two perpetrators in different locations. For MYD, we secured it in Sumenep Regency, while DS was secured in Tulungagung Regency," said Arief.
In that case, said Arief, officers confiscated some of the equipment belonging to the two like a journalist. Among them are the identities of the two suspects complete with some evidence of transactions and conversations between the victim and the perpetrator.
"Regarding these (identity) cards, we cannot confirm whether they are valid or not," he said.
The perpetrators were charged with Article 45 paragraph (4) in conjunction with Article 27 paragraph (4) of RI Law Number 19 of 2016 Amendments to RI Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code.
