Regency Government Optimizing Movement To Keep Residents Watching Tourist Visits In Gunungkidul

GUNUNGKIDUL - The Gunungkidul Regency Government, Special Region of Yogyakarta, has optimized the Citizens Watch Movement to control the number of tourists and homecomers during the 2021 Christmas and 2022 New Year holidays to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The Regent of Gunungkidul, Sunaryanta, said that his party ensures there will be a surge in the number of tourists during the holidays because Gunungkidul is the main destination for traveling in DIY.

In addition, he predicts that many migrants will go home to celebrate Christmas or vacation with family in Gunungkidul.

"We will optimize the Citizens Guard Movement. This organization is at the village level and is managed by local residents," said Sunaryanta, quoted by Antara, Monday, December 13.

According to him, taking care of the residents is an extension of the Gunungkidul Regency Government. Especially in monitoring the activities of migrants entering the area.

"Immigrants from outside the region do not need to undergo quarantine, but we ensure that monitoring of them will still be carried out," he said.

In addition, the regent will also communicate with migrant communities from Gunungkidul scattered in various regions not to go home during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

"We will communicate with them, we hope they don't go home," he said.

Sunaryanta said that his party through the technical service would carry out engineering of vehicle traffic that would enter Gunungkidul. However, the regent has not been able to confirm whether there is a blocking scheme or only relying on odd-even.

"We hope that the odd-even scheme will continue to be implemented without any restrictions such as during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. However, we still have to wait for the final instructions from the center," he said.

Meanwhile, the Gunungkidul Police Chief AKBP Aditya Galayudha Ferdiansyah stated that there was no certainty about how to regulate the arrival of vehicles.

However, his party has also prepared a general scheme that can be changed if there is an instruction from the center at any time. The scheme that has been prepared is to establish integrated service posts at a number of strategic points.

"Traffic flow during the Christmas and New Year holidays will be a major concern for the joint officers of the Gunungkidul Police," he said.
