Former Makassar UNM Security Guard Who Recorded Students In Campus Toilets Becomes Suspects

MAKASSAR - The former Makassar State University (UNM) campus security guard with the initials A who was caught in the act of sexual harassment, recorded a student participating in the PPM Merdeka Campus Program while bathing in the toilet area using a cellphone, finally being named a suspect.

"The (suspect) is currently being completed with files to be sent to the prosecutor's office," said Head of Public Relations Section of Makassar Polrestabes AKP Lando when confirmed by reporters in Makassar, quoted by Antara, Monday, December 13.

Determination of the status of a suspect after the investigation team carries out a case title and a criminal act is found. The person concerned is subject to Article 35 in conjunction with Article 9 of Law Number 44 of 2008 concerning Pornography with a maximum imprisonment of 6 years.

In addition to confiscating evidence from the perpetrator's cellphone which was used to record the victim while taking a bath, the police have also examined two witnesses, namely the victim and her partner in the case.

"All examination results have been completed in the case file, while investigators are preparing for completeness at the prosecutor's office and further proceedings in court," he added.

Prior to the transfer of case files, AKP Lando also asked if there were still parties or victims who were harmed by the actions of the perpetrators as part of strengthening the case files. Meanwhile, the seized evidence, videos and photos on the perpetrator's cellphone were professionally secured.

"The task of the police is proportional, professional and procedural. The recordings (video and photo evidence) cannot be released or distributed anywhere," he asserted, responding to the guarantee of the protection of evidence at the request of the victim's legal counsel.

Previously, legal assistance from the Makassar Legal Aid Foundation-Legal Aid Institute (YLBH-LBH) Rezky Pratiwi said there were about 40 photos and several videos that the perpetrators had taken while the victim was bathing in the local toilet.

"It must be ensured that investigators are concerned with the security of the previous victim's personal photo and video evidence. Because there is a possibility that the perpetrators have disseminated it through the electronic system," Rezky said in his written statement.

In this case, the Chancellor of UNM Prof Husain Syam has taken firm steps to dishonor the perpetrator in question. The 40-year-old man was caught committing immoral acts and sexually harassing students while filming a student bathing in a campus toilet on Thursday, December 10.

From the results of the investigation by investigators, the perpetrator has carried out his actions three times, twice from the reported party and once by the reported partner.
