Stubborn, Don't Use Masks, Get Ready To Sweep The Streets

JAKARTA - The Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) has taken action against people who do not wear masks, in accordance with the provisions of health protocols and Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB). Those who do not comply with these rules will be asked to carry out social sanctions, such as sweeping the streets.

According to the Head of DKI Satpol PP Arifin, so far his party has only focused on prosecuting those (residents) who do not only bring masks. But this time, Satpol PP will also take action against those who wear masks but are worn around the neck, chin or just hanging.

"In the Transitional PSBB which is being extended for the fourth time, apart from not bringing masks, residents who carry masks but are not used or in pockets and on car dashboards will also be prosecuted," Arifin explained.

Even though it's trivial, Arifin said that the form of violation will still be subject to prosecution by the DKI Satpol PP so that the public understands. Based on data from the Satpol PP, 11,178 violations have been given written warnings and fines.

Then 80,832 violations of which are subject to social work penalties by the Satpol PP. The offenders are violations of the category of public places / facilities, socio-cultural activities and individuals.

"Protest says they are carrying masks or wearing masks, but not wearing them is correct. The purpose of the protocol is so that we don't get infected," he added.

According to Arifin, the majority of people have been disciplined to wear masks in public places. "Because in public places it is better now. For example in malls, you wear a mask because you are guarded, you take the MRT wearing a mask, meaning that in those places you can be disciplined," he said.
