JAKARTA - Acting KPK spokesman Ali Fikri explained that the chaos that occurred between KPK Deputy Chairman Nawawi Pomolango and Amien Rais' son, Mumtaz Rais. The quarrel between Nawawi and DPR members from PAN took place on the Garuda Indonesia flight on the Gorontalo-Makassar-Jakarta route.
According to Ali, Nawawi was on a flight back to Jakarta after carrying out his official duties. On the flight, he found a passenger using a cell phone while the plane was refueling while in transit in Makassar and tried to remind the passenger.
"However, good faith reminded that the person concerned had a negative response. In fact, the person concerned said, 'Who are you?' and told Pak Nawawi at that time, that he was with one of the Deputy Chairmen of the DPR-RI Commission, "Ali said in a written statement, Friday, August 14.
Ali said that Nawawi at that time only acted as an airplane passenger who cared about aviation safety rules. Ali affirmed that the flight rules must be followed by anyone without exception.
"At that time Pak Nawawi did not know the name or who he was talking to. However, he decided to remind the passenger to comply with the rules in force on the flight," said Ali.
"Nawawi never expected him to be heard because he is the KPK leader. However, he hopes that any passenger who reminds other passengers should not be responded negatively. Because it is for the common interest," he added.
Previously, PAN Deputy Chairman Yandri Susanto said the quarrel between Mumtaz Rais and Nawawi Pomolango did not need to be extended. From Mumtaz's clarification received by Yandri, the problems in the plane had been resolved during the flight. Both parties are said to have understood and forgiven each other.
However, Yandri admitted that he was shocked when he received information that Nawawi reported the incident to the authorities.
"We were also surprised when Garuda or Pak Nawawi reported this, what is the essence? Actually, I don't think it needs to be extended," Yandri told reporters at the parliament complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Friday, August 14.
He said his party would try to mediate with Garuda so that the incident was not prolonged. However, if the legal process has been running, Yandri emphasized that Mumtaz Rais would be ready to follow him.
