Construction Worker Dies After Falling In Septic Tank Pit While Dismantling Sink
JAKARTA - The East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Sudin Gulkarmat) managed to evacuate a house renovation project worker who fell into a septic tank.
The evacuation was carried out for several hours because officers had encountered problems with a narrow location and an unpleasant odor.
According to the Head of the Operations Section of the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept. Gatot Sulaeman, the initial evacuation process was carried out after his party received reports from residents on Sunday 09.30 WIB, yesterday.
A total of 13 rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene in Rawa Badung Village, RT 007/013, Jatinegara Village, Cakung District. Upon arrival at the location, officers immediately evacuated the victim with the initials RP (23) from Banyumas.
"The victim was found and evacuated at 19.25 WIB on Sunday, December 12, last night. Evacuation experienced problems due to piles of debris," he said when confirmed by VOI, Monday, December 13.
The incident occurred when the victim and 6 other project workers were renovating a house belonging to Saipul. When the victim was dismantling the sink, the victim was reminded by his partner not to go too deep because he was afraid there would be a septic tank.
Not long after, the victim fell into a septic tank. The rubble fell at the same time as the victim broke the house into a septic tank hole with a depth of about 10 meters and a diameter of about 1.5 meters.
Although his colleagues have tried to help, but to no avail. The victim's friend then went to the fire department in the Pulogadung area.
In this evacuation process, officers who were tied with ropes and equipped with oxygen cylinders descended into a septic tank with a diameter of 1.5 meters and a depth of 10 meters. Chunks of debris from the floor, closet and sink make the evacuation process take a long time.
Officers had to lift the chunk of debris to the ground first to be able to get to the victim. After the victim's body was seen and immediately evacuated.
"Officers immediately lifted the victim whose condition was already dead. The victim's body was immediately rushed to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital for an autopsy," he said.
