Floods In Rokan Hulu Riau Recede, But Residents Are Alert To Follow-up Floods, Joint Military And Police Officers Are On Standby

JAKARTA - Floods have hit Aliantan Village, Kabun District, Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau Province since Friday, December 10, 2021. Today, it is observed that the flooding has receded.

However, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Rokan Hulu Regency (Rohul) reported that currently, local villagers are still wary of aftershocks.

"This vigilance cannot be separated from the weather forecast for the next two days which has the potential to be cloudy, light rain to thunderstorms. This Sunday, Kabun District still has the chance of light rain to thunderstorms," said Plt. Head of BNPB Disaster Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in his statement, Sunday, December 12.

Responding to the floods two days ago, BPBD and joint officers from the TNI, Polri, volunteers, and sub-district, and village officials were on standby to anticipate the evacuation of residents.

In addition, Abdul Muhari appealed to local governments and the public to always be alert and ready, especially ahead of the peak of the rainy season in January 2021 to February 2022.

"Based on the inaRISK hazard study, Kabun District is one of the sub-districts with moderate to high flood hazard potential. As many as 16 sub-districts in Rohul Regency are at this potential hazard," he said.

As is known, the flood in Aliantan Village, Rokan Hulu, occurred after heavy rains caused the Aliantan River to overflow and affected 93 families.

The water level at the time of the flood ranged from 50 to 100 centimeters. There were no reports of casualties or residents being evacuated as a result of the incident.
