Brentford Sets Unique Record That Beats Liverpool In Beating Watford 2-1
JAKARTA - Brentford won the match against Watford in Week 16 of the Premier League. Not only winning, Bentford's appearance in this match also made a unique record in the form of ten different first home goalscorers at the start of the season.
The record achieved by Bentford in this match became a new record in the Premier League and surpassed Liverpool's achievement in the 1992 era. At that time the record was only nine different first home goalscorers.
Even though they finally succeeded in achieving a victory which also led to a new record, in fact Bentford's road was not as smooth as the final result. Appearing as the host at the Brentford Community Stadium, London on Saturday, December 11, they actually got left behind by their opponents.
The dominance of Brentford, which was shown from the start of the match, has not produced results, they even conceded first. Watford were able to open the numbers 1-0 first through a sharp header from Emmanuel Dennis in the 24th minute.
Watford's advantage at the start of the match made Bentford try hard to catch up. Unfortunately, the host's efforts still did not bear fruit until halftime.
In the second half, Bentford also needed a long time to make things change. It was only in the 84th minute that the score could be leveled 1-2 after Pontus Jansson's shot in the far post area failed to be blocked by the Watford goalkeeper.
Seeing that the remaining time is getting narrower, the match is predicted to end in a draw for both teams. But Bentford took advantage when Saman Ghoddos was violated by Watford players in the forbidden box.
The incident made the referee award a penalty for Bentford who immediately appointed Bryan Mbuemo to be the executor who successfully scored a point. The score 2-1 finally chose Bentford because soon the referee blew the long whistle signaling the end of the match.
Successfully bagging three points, Brentford then rose to ninth in the standings with a collection of 20 points. While Watford are still stuck in 17th with 13 points.
