Donny Van De Beek Admits He Was The Reason Manchester United Failed To Win Against Young Boys

JAKARTA - Manchester United had to settle for sharing points with Young Boys in their sixth Champions League match on Wednesday night. Donny van de Beek admits he was the reason Manchester United failed to win.

In the match which took place at Old Trafford Stadium, the Red Devils had taken a 1-0 lead through Mason Greenwood's goal in the early minutes of the first half.

Unfortunately, MU's chance to win was actually grabbed by Young Boys before halftime. Through Fabian Rieder's long-distance goal, the score became 1-1 until the match was over.

The moment Rieder scored the long-range goal was apparently created by Van de Beek's negligence in providing feedback in front of the penalty box. Rieder used that moment to win the ball and finally score.

Van de Beek claims that his sloppy passing was the reason for the draw against Young Boys. The Dutch midfielder also said the ball should have been thrown away so it wouldn't be an opportunity for the opponent.

"The result was 1-1 for me when I lost the ball in the middle (of the match) that was the cause (of losing), maybe I should have kicked the ball far away," Van de Beek was quoted as saying by Sky Sport.

"I didn't do that (throw the ball away). I take responsibility for the mistake (creating chances for the opponent)," he continued.

Despite Van de Beek's confession, in that match MU appeared with a new touch from Ralf Rangnick who carried out a massive player overhaul.

This was done by the coach following the certainty that Manchester United had qualified for the last 16 from the previous match.
