Oeroeg Film, Friendship Of Dutch Indonesian Children That Ended In Medan Prang

JAKARTA - The film Oeroeg tells the story of the friendship of Johan, a Dutch boy born in colonial Indonesia, with Oeroeg, an indigenous child, the son of his family's servant. They grew to be more than just friends, but brothers.

Growing up, Johan returned to the Netherlands to study, while Oeroeg lived in Indonesia. Years later, Johan returned to Indonesia. Apart from longing, he also had to carry out his duties as a Dutch military officer.

Johan tries to find his old friend again, but a dilemmatic conflict surrounds Johan, when he believes that his friend Oeroeg is now part of the TNI that he must fight.

The Oeroeg film will air on tvOne on Sunday, December 12, 2021, at 20.00 WIB. Oeroeg is a drama film directed by Hans Hylkema who is a Dutchman. The film Oeroeg was released in 1993, adapted from the famous novel of the same title, by the Dutch writer Hella S. Haasse published in 1948 during the Indonesian war of independence.

This film was produced by the Netherlands in collaboration with Belgium and Indonesia. Aims to commemorate the good diplomatic relations between the Netherlands and Indonesia even though it was colored by a history of war, colonialism and colonialism for hundreds of years.
