Four Specialist Thieves In Empty House Arrested, Police Explain Each Role Of Perpetrators In Action

JAKARTA - The East Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit has arrested a gang of thieves specializing in houses and shophouses in the East Jakarta area. From this gang, the police arrested four suspects who had their respective roles.

"The four suspects have the initials ADP (26), ASP (32), HDS (27), and YRD (25). Their confession has only taken 4 actions but we will check with the Polsek and other Polres," said East Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Pol Erwin Kurniawan to VOI, Thursday 9 December.

The police chief said that in carrying out the theft, the four perpetrators had their own roles.

"Their activities are classified as professional, patrolling empty houses (rumsong) and houses to steal motorbikes. They have shared roles, some are observing (the situation) first, some are supervising the execution (of the theft), some are taking or picking stolen items," Erwin explained.

The suspects broke into the house using objects such as a min screwdriver and a letter L key. After breaking into the house or shophouse left by the occupants, the perpetrator then took valuable items such as electronics and motorbikes.

"There were various items that were taken from the house that was being monitored. There were laptops, notebooks, cellphones, then helmets and this is a motorcycle that we managed to take," he said again.

Erwin added that the perpetrators usually carry out their actions late at night or early in the morning before dawn.

"On average they carry out their activities at night, before dawn or even before sunrise, around 4 to 05.20 or 05.30," he said.

Meanwhile, according to the perpetrator's confession, continued Erwin, the theft had been carried out four times at a number of points in East Jakarta.

"The last one was on October 6, 2021, consecutively from August, in October alone there were two cases that they were involved in," he said.

The perpetrators were charged with Article 363 paragraph (1) to 3e, 4e, and 5e of the Criminal Code concerning theft by Weighting.

"We impose Article 363 of the Criminal Code on theft with Weighted paragraph (1) paragraphs 3e, 4e and 5e, which is indeed a threat (imprisonment) of about 7 years, above 5 years," concluded Erwin.
