World Anti-Corruption Day, Jokowi Showcases Handling The Jiwasraya-Asabri Case

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) showcased a number of high-profile corruption cases that were successfully handled by law enforcement officers when opening the commemoration of the 2021 World Anti-Corruption Day (Hakordia). There were two cases he alluded to, namely the alleged corruption of Jiwasraya and Asabri.

This was conveyed by the chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri and other invitees at the opening ceremony of the 2021 Hakordia commemoration which was held at the KPK Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta.

"Several major corruption cases have also been taken seriously. In the Jiwasraya case, for example, the convicts have been executed and imprisoned by the Prosecutor's Office and two of them have been given life sentences and confiscated assets amounting to Rp. 18 trillion," Jokowi said in his remarks, Thursday, December 9.

Meanwhile, regarding the alleged corruption within PT Asabri, Jokowi said that there were already perpetrators who were sentenced to 10 years in prison and even the death penalty. "As well as compensation for state losses reaching tens of trillions of rupiah," said the former governor of DKI Jakarta.

In addition, he also revealed the success of completing the Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI) which has always been the government's homework every year. Jokowi said the BLBI Task Force that had been formed was now working hard to get state money from debtors and obligors, which totaled Rp110 trillion.

"And strive so that no obligors and debtors escape the BLBI refund," he said.

Even so, he asked all law enforcement officers including the KPK not to remain complacent. Jokowi said that the public's assessment of efforts to eradicate corruption in the country has not been good so far.

"Law enforcement officials, including the Corruption Eradication Commission, once again should not be complacent yet because the public's assessment of efforts to eradicate corruption is still considered not good. We all must be aware of this," he concluded.
