Viral Jakarta-Bandung High Speed Train Collapses Over Excavator, KCIC: We Reprimand Because Contractors Violated Construction SOPs

JAKARTA - President Director of PT KCIC, Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi, responded to a viral video related to the demolition of a pole or pier at the Jakarta-Bandung High Speed Rail Project (KCJB). According to him, it was found that the contractor violated the SOP.

As is known, in the viral video, it appears that several excavators are being operated to dismantle the poles of the high-speed train tracks. However, in the end the pole of the high-speed train actually hit one of the excavators. This event will take place on Sunday, December 5, 2021.

"PT KCIC does not tolerate construction errors that exceed the required tolerance," he said in a written statement received by VOI, Thursday, December 9.

Initially, said Dwiyana, the quality team of PT KCIC and the CDJO supervision consultant found a shift in the alignment of the pier work in DK46 and instructed the contractor to rework and dismantle it to be rebuilt according to the technical specifications that have been set.

Furthermore, Dwiyana explained that there has been a standard operating procedure for dismantling the pier, including the construction safety aspect.

"However, based on the results of the investigation conducted by KCIC, it was found that the contractor violated the SOP, resulting in an incident like the one in the video," he said.

After the demolition of the KCJB pier at DK46, Teluk Jambe, Karawang Regency which was carried out without the correct Construction SOP that hit the excavator, PT KCIC immediately called, investigated and gave a direct warning to the contractor concerned so that similar incidents do not happen again.

"It is true that when the pier dismantling rework was carried out, the contractor was negligent in carrying out the SOP so that the pier hit the excavator used. We immediately called the contractor and gave a warning so that all work was carried out according to the SOP set by the Engineering and SSHE Team so that similar incidents do not happen again ," he said.

Dwiyana ensured that the incident did not cause any casualties. The operator running the excavator managed to escape just before the wreckage hit.

Currently, said Dwiyana, the PT KCIC Construction and SSHE team is conducting an in-depth investigation regarding the incident and coordinating with all parties working on the KCJB project to pay more attention to Construction SOPs so that similar incidents do not recur.

Furthermore, said Dwiyana, the results of the investigation will immediately be reported to the KKJTJ (Bridge and Road Tunnel Safety Commission) and K2K (Construction Safety Committee) teams of the PUPR Ministry.

"This incident has become a serious concern for us. An in-depth investigation was immediately carried out and just waiting for the results. We also immediately coordinated with all parties related to the KCJB project to pay more attention to work safety and implement SOPs as well as possible," he explained.
