Makassar City Government Tightens Care To Protect Anticipation Of COVID-19

MAKASSAR - The Makassar City Government, South Sulawesi, has implemented a number of anticipatory steps to reduce the rate of transmission of COVID-19 ahead of Christmas and the 2022 New Year by tightening the Care Protect system.

"The central government has officially canceled PPKM Level 3 which is planned to be implemented during the Christmas and New Year 2022 celebrations. However, we will continue to tighten the Care to Protect system," said Makassar Mayor Moh Ramdhan Pomanto (Danny Pomanto) quoted by Antara, Wednesday, 8 December.

Danny Pomanto said that he knew the certainty of the cancellation of PPKM Level 3 after he followed the virtual briefing with other regional heads by the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian.

"From the results of the Ministry of Home Affairs' directive, PPKM level 3 was canceled and asked not to do insulation. However, it is emphasized to be more aware of the movement of the new variant of COVID-19, namely Omicron," he said.

According to him, even though the isolation is prohibited by the center, it doesn't mean that people can celebrate Christmas and New Year with full of euphoria.

"There will still be intensified surveillance in each place, including Makassar. Crowds are prohibited and all follow strict health protocols," he explained.

In addition to implementing strict procedures, regional heads are also asked to maximize vaccinations to maintain the immunity of their citizens.

"Thank God the Makassar vaccine has passed 70 percent, but I am optimistic that December 2021 can reach 80 percent. So please continue to obey the government's instructions for mutual safety," said Danny Pomanto.
