116 Houses In Mentok, West Bangka Submerged By Robt Floods
BANGKA BARAT - The Regional Disaster Management Agency of West Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands noted that 116 houses in Mentok sub-district were submerged in water due to tidal flooding.
"A total of 116 houses are spread over two villages, namely Kampung Tanjunglaut and Kampung Ulu, Tanjung Village, which were flooded starting at around 09.00 WIB," said Head of BPBD West Bangka Regency Achmad Nursyandi in Mentok quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 8.
Nursyandi explained that the two locations often experience high tides because they are located near the coast, when heavy rains last for a long time together with rising tides, the water inundates people's homes.
"Earlier at around 09.00 WIB, the sea water began to rise and enter people's homes, and it is still ongoing," he said.
As a form of handling, he said, the West Bangka BPBD together with a joint team had carried out monitoring at the location, carried out evacuation actions as well as collecting data on affected residents.
"Starting at around 08.00 WIB, we together with the TRC BPBD Babel were already at the location and carried out various preparations for handling and helping evacuate valuables belonging to residents affected by the tidal flood," added Nursyandi.
In the initial data collection carried out by officers, up to now as many as 116 houses are still inundated and 348 residents are affected by the incident.
BPBD appealed to residents to increase vigilance so that this incident does not cause greater loss of life and property.
The average water level is around 60 centimeters to one meter. Currently, a joint team consisting of the TRC BPBD Babel, Polres Polres Bangka Barat, TNI AL Post Mentok, SAR Post Mentok and local government officials are still at the location for handling.
