Sidoarjo Establishes 3 Villages Flood Emergency Response Status
SIDORARJO - The Sidoarjo Regency Government has established an emergency response status for flood events in Tanggulangin District, precisely in three villages namely Kedungbanteng Village, Banjarasri Village, and Banjarpanji Village, which is valid from 7-21 December.
Sidoarjo Regent Ahmad Muhdlor Ali checked and toured the three villages to talk with residents and ensure that basic food aid was distributed properly.
"Sand and stone backfill is on the Banjarpanji Village road. We have also prepared water pumps. There are 7 pumps that are ready and the plan is to add another 8 pumps," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 7.
Muhdlor instructed related ranks such as the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), PU BMSDA Service, Environment and Hygiene Service, Health Service, Social Service, Tanggulangin Camat and three village governments to jointly move to accelerate flood management in the three villages.
The handling carried out during the emergency response included accelerating the backfill of sand and stone material on the Banjarpanji Village road which was flooded by 40 centimeters of water.
In addition, his party has prepared a number of water suction pumps that will be placed in three villages. The government has also accelerated the construction of kisdam (temporary dams) and prepared basic food assistance for affected residents.
The three villages, according to Muhdlor, have been under the supervision of the Sidoarjo Regency Government since 2018.
"What is clear is that these three villages are villages that have been monitored from 2018 to 2020 experiencing land subsidence. And the figure is quite high, even the highest decline is up to 30 centimeters," he said.
Muhdlor also conveyed predictions and warnings from BMKG that there would be a tidal wave which is estimated to peak in December.
"The Sidoarjo Regency Government has warned because December 3-6, according to the BMKG analysis, the tidal water is high, sea water has risen quite high about 1.5-2 meters," he said.
The young regent, an alumnus of Airlangga University (Unair) also said in the Banjarpanji Village area, when it rains from upstream to downstream, then the water cannot reach the sea because the seawater rises towards the mainland.
"So the provision of pumps is something that cannot be contested because the land has decreased. So these three villages are villages that have experienced land subsidence and are lower than other villages. Later we will add pumps. If that is not possible, we will rent it as soon as possible. ," he said.
In addition to the tidal water factor, high rainfall also complements the occurrence of floods in the three villages. The Sidoarjo Regency Government ensures that pump management must run while providing assistance to residents.
"It is important that the presence of the government must be felt by the community, must be willing to come down to listen to the aspirations of the people," he said.
Regarding the development of the kisdam, Gus Muhdlor emphasized that the problem of developing the kisdam was slightly hampered because the water level did not continue to decrease. So the Sidoarjo Regency Government will build temporary kisdams at several points.
"So the problem with this kisdam is that we will build six kisdams, but the problem is that when the water rises, development is hampered. As soon as we can build temporary kisdams at the end of the surrounding villages. Because the current conditions are like bowls, so we make sure that at the end of these three villages there is a kisdam for us. pump," he said.
