The South Sulawesi Police Chief Intervenes To Investigate The Case Of UIM Student Commotion That Almost Broke The Hands Of The Head Of BEM

JAKARTA - The South Sulawesi Regional Police Chief Inspector General of Police Nana Sudjana directly led the disclosure of cases of clashes between two groups of students who carried regional names and triggered attacks in their respective dormitories.

"The student dispute is purely a criminal act and not a regional conflict, it's just that they carry the name of their respective regions," said Inspector General of Police Nana Sudjana at the Makassar Police Headquarters, Tuesday, December 7.

The beginning of the dispute between the two groups of students occurred on Friday, November 26, at the Makassar Islamic University (UIM) Campus, to be precise, the Faculty of Agriculture. The victim is the Head of the Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Agriculture, UIM Arham, who suffered stab and slash wounds on his body and a nearly severed left hand.

The regional police chief himself stated that the attack by students carrying the name of the regional organization Luwu Indonesian Student Association (IPMIL) attacked the BEM secretariat of the Faculty of Agriculture because the perpetrators were hurt by the victim.

Inspector General of Police Nana Sudjana explained that at that time the perpetrator went to the BEM secretariat of the Faculty of Agriculture and intended to ask the victim to make a letter containing the student's name but the victim refused.

"Actually, this is a trivial matter, just because they asked for a letter but they didn't make it, instead the perpetrator went home and invited his fellow students from his hometown and then attacked the victim at the secretariat," he said.

After that incident, Nana continued, there was a retaliatory action from the victim's colleagues who also carried the regional name Bone Regency and then attacked the IPMIL student dormitory on Jalan Sungai Limboto, Makassar District, November 28 at 00.00 WITA.

The retaliatory attack in the name of solidarity resulted in one of the students with the initials MS being injured with stab wounds to the body, stab wounds to the head and a severed left hand due to the machete and sword carried by the group of students.

"So there were three incidents, first at the UIM Campus, on Friday November 26, then it continued from the victim's colleagues to the IPMIL student dormitory causing damage to the secretariat and injuring MS. The third series of events occurred a few hours later in the Kepmi Bone dormitory but nothing victims there," he said.

The South Sulawesi Regional Police Chief Inspector General Nana Sudjana then formed a joint team to pursue the perpetrators of the abuse and attack on the secretariat from both sides.

The joint Intelligence and Security team managed to apprehend seven perpetrators, each with the initials MR (provocator), MG, Y, W and MR. While the other two actors from the opposing camp, namely AP and ASS.

For the actions of the perpetrators, the police will then arrest the perpetrators under Article 2 (1) of the Emergency Law No. 12 of 1951 Jo Article 187 to 1e of the Criminal Code subsidiary 170 sub 160 and sub 351 with a threat of 10 years in prison.
