Government Cancels PPKM Level 3 In The Christmas And New Year Period, DPR Suspects For These 4 Reasons

JAKARTA - Commission IX of the House of Representatives has responded to the government's cancellation of the government's application of level 3 restrictions on community activities (PPKM) for all regions of Indonesia during the Christmas and New Year period.

Member of Commission IX of the House of Representatives, Saleh Partaonan Daulay, said he did not yet know the details of the government's reason for canceling the PPKM level 3 regulation at the end of this year's holiday.

However, he catches that the government wants to make a balanced policy in all regions in Indonesia. Because, according to him, not all regions have the same conditions, especially since Indonesia is currently considered much more prepared than last year.

"He said, currently the majority of Indonesian people have been vaccinated, testing and tracing are still being carried out properly, vaccines for the elderly are prioritized, and so on. From this point of view, Indonesia is more prepared than last year's Nataru," Saleh told reporters, Tuesday, 7 December.

Even so, said Saleh, this policy change still gets the public's attention. This is because the regulations have not yet been implemented but have been evaluated and replaced. So it appears that the government has not conducted a study of all aspects before setting the policy.

"I suspect there are several things that caused the government to change the policy. First, there was a rejection from some members of the community. This rejection was conveyed a lot, especially through social media. Not only refusing, the community also gave criticism and suggestions for the policy," explained the Chair of the PAN faction. Second, Saleh continued, there were some experts and academics who also gave their views and expressed their disagreement with the policy.

"The government seems to have listened to this input. Evidently, there are arguments presented by the government which are based on the views and inputs of these experts," he explained. Third, the government wants to keep the wheels of the economy at the lower levels running well. By giving concessions, said Saleh, people can still work as usual.

"That means, economic life remains stable and runs as it should. This may be considered important because now people's business and economic activities have started to squirm," he explained. Fourth, the government is certainly aware that conditions vary from one region to another. "Therefore, some need to be tightened up to level 3, some are level 2, and maybe some are only at level 1. The data and maps of the spread of the COVID-19 virus are of course already owned by the government," said Saleh.
Previously, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the government decided to make a more balanced policy by not treating all regions of Indonesia the same way as Christmas and New Year approaches. Previously, the government would apply PPKM level 3 on December 24, 2021 to January 2, 2022. "The government has decided not to apply the rules for the implementation of community activity restrictions (PPKM) level 3 during the Christmas and New Year period for all regions," said Luhut, quoted from a press release on the official website of the Coordinating Ministry for Marves, Tuesday, December 7th. "The implementation of the PPKM level during Christmas and New Year will continue to follow the assessment of the pandemic situation according to what is currently in effect, but with some tightening," he stressed.
