Members of The House of Representatives Are Prohibited From Going Abroad Anticipating The Omicron Variant's Entry To Indonesia
JAKARTA - Anticipating the entry of a new variant of the corona, Omicron is trying to be carried out by the House of Representatives (DPR). All members of the House of Representatives who have scheduled official trips abroad have been postponed.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the DPR RI Deliberative Body (Bamus) which was held at the DPR Building, Monday, December 6.
"This is a joint effort by all elements of the nation to prevent the entry of the Omicron variant, which we know has a very high transmission rate. Moreover, we will also enter the Christmas and New Year holiday season," said Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani in a written statement, Tuesday, December 7 .
Puan explained that the suspension of foreign official travel for members of the DPR will come into effect starting December 6, 2021.
"Until the time limit to be determined further," she said.
However, there are exceptions to this rule for members of the DPR's Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP). They may still be allowed to travel abroad, but with special notes.
"That is, only attending the invitation as a representative of the Indonesian parliament. Even that with a very limited number of delegates," she said.
