Artists Campaigning For The Omnibus Law Bill On Work Creation Are Considered To Be An Attempt To Dupe The Community

Seeing this, researcher Lucius Karus, a researcher at the Forum for the Concerned Community of Parliament (Formappi), considered that even though there were no rules being violated, using artists to garner support for this bill was considered inappropriate.
"This looks like an attempt to fool the public because what the influencers campaigned for was not included in the substance of the bill. Something that should be important for the public to know. Because after all, the Job Creation Law will bind the public," said Lucius when contacted by reporters, Thursday , August 13th.
He said the artists might not understand the bill they were campaigning for.
"They accept campaign offers from the government not to build mutual understanding but to give legitimacy to what the government wants," he said.
Instead of using the services of artists or influencers, Lucius said the discussion of this bill should be socialized clearly and carried out continuously by the government. With this socialization, the community can then play an active role in providing input and the government must listen to this.
The involvement of artists and influencers who may not understand the Work Creation Omnibus Law Bill is considered to increasingly show that the government is impatient to immediately ratify the bill and does not want to open up socialization space for the community.
In addition, Lucius assessed that the campaign showed that this bill was not fighting for workers but more focused on the interests of investors. "The government seems to want to emphasize the interests of investors that force them to immediately present the bill," he said.
Furthermore, he said the use of influencers and artists to campaign for legal products was also dangerous. Because, when influencers or artists upload content about the draft law and their fans do not show rejection, this can make the government more confident that the public supports the legislation that is being made.
In fact, the voices of other people regarding this law cannot simply be represented by fans of the influencer or artist. "There are many other voices that influencers and labor groups cannot simply represent," he said.
"Many other elements of civil society highlight not only the issue of manpower but other issues and their voices must be ready to be buried just like that because one or two groups can become a means of justifying for the DPR and the government," he added.
It is known that there are a number of influencers and artists who have uploaded content supporting the Job Creation Bill. They mostly uploaded a video explaining why Indonesia needed the bill on their Instagram account with the hashtag #indonesiabutuhkerja.
However, recently a number of influencers and artists have deleted their content after being widely discussed by citizens on social media, especially on Twitter.
