Ruslan Buton Will Undergo An Indictment Trial Regarding The Hoax Case

JAKARTA - Ruslan Buton will undergo an inaugural trial with an agenda of reading the charges in the case of alleged hoax information dissemination at the South Jakarta District Court, Thursday, August 13.

"Today's trial is at 10 o'clock, trial for the Ruslan Buton case," said Public Prosecutor (JPU) Sigit Hendardi.

This inaugural trial was held after the National Police's Criminal Investigation team previously transferred the defendant Ruslan Buton and evidence to the South Jakarta District Prosecutor's Office on Monday, August 3.

Case trial Number 845 / Pid.Sus / 2020 / PN JKT SEL was chaired by a panel of judges chaired by Judge Dedy Hermawan.

"The trial was held by teleconference, Ruslan Buton is in the detention of the Criminal Investigation Unit, while the prosecutors, judges and lawyers are at the South Jakarta District Court," said Sigit.

As for Ruslan Buton, twice filed a pretrial at the South Jakarta District Court regarding his arrest and the determination of a suspect. However, the panel of judges rejected the pretrial until finally today the case went to court to prove it.

Ruslan Buton was arrested by the National Police Criminal Investigation Team together with the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police and the Buton Police on Jalan Poros, Wajo Wasuba Market, Lacupea Hamlet, Wabula 1 Village, Wabula District, Buton Regency, Southeast Sulawesi on Thursday (28/5).

In this case, the evidence was confiscated by the police. namely a smart phone and a KTP belonging to Ruslan.

Bareskrim Polri then named Ruslan Buton as a suspect in the case of spreading hoax information and hate speech. Ruslan was detained at the Bareskrim Detention Center on Friday (29/5) for 20 days until 17 June 2020.

Ruslan was charged with Article 14 paragraph (1) and (2) and or Article 15 of Law Number 1 of 1946 concerning Criminal Law Regulations overlaid with Article 28 paragraph (2) of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) with threats six years imprisonment and / or Article 207 of the Criminal Code, can be punished with imprisonment of two years.

Ruslan was arrested after making an open statement to President Joko Widodo in the form of a voice recording on 18 May 2020 and then the voice recording went viral on social media.
