Although It Doesn't Have Much Impact On Performance, Vettel Will Use A New Chassis In Catalunya

JAKARTA - The chassis damage suffered by Ferrari at Silverstone last weekend caused Sebastian Vettel to be thrown into a distended position. At the Spanish Grand Prix at the Catalunya Circuit this week, the four-time world champion doesn't want that to happen. He will use a new chassis for his ground jets.

"Sebastian will have a new chassis because after the post-race analysis of Silverstone we found a small crack caused by a hard bump with the curb," said Ferrari's head of chassis development Simone Resta.

"It will not have much impact on performance, but a logical decision to make."

Vettel lost control of the SF1000 after running over the curb at the first corner of Formula 1's 70th anniversary race at Silvestone last weekend where he finished P12.

The German rider will leave Ferrari later this year but has had a tough season after being 13th in the standings with 10 points from five races this year.

Vettel was in the shadow of his team-mate, young Monaco racer Charles Leclerc, who had 45 points. Adding to the bitterness for Vettel, Nico Hulkenberg, who replaced Racing Point racer Sergio Perez, earned six points from just one race.

Ferrari is not satisfied with their car package this year and admits that the SF1000 is slower than its rivals' cars.

The team leader based in Maranello, Italy is even pessimistic about saying they will not win another grand prix before 2022 when the new regulations are implemented.
