Much Money Laundering And Organized Crime, Mexico 'Cleanses' The Police Institution

JAKARTA - A Mexican high court judge issued arrest warrants to 19 former police officers on Tuesday, August 11. The arrest order was carried out because dozens of top police officers were involved in organized crime and money laundering.

One of the top police officers involved was the former Mexico City police chief, Jesus Orta. The suspicion is the same as the other 18, who believe they were involved in embezzling millions of dollars during their time in the federal police during the administration of President Enrique Pena Nieto (2012-2018).

In the course of his career, Orta has served as general secretary of the federal police at the beginning of Pena Nieto's administration. Then, he succeeded in serving as chief of police in Mexico City and only resigned in October last year.

One of the famous figures of 19 other top police officers, is Frida Martinez. Frida is the secretary general of the federal police who is registered as a protégé of Miguel Angel Osoria Chong, who was known as the Minister of the Interior of Mexico under Pena Nieto's administration.

For their crimes, an official who asked not to be identified said the suspects were wanted because they had formed a criminal network of more than three people. Therefore, the crime they have committed has been included in the category of organized crime.

Responding to this, the current President of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador told a press conference, that before the arrest order was issued, the owner of the policy had conducted an investigation. In particular, the investigation into the accounts of the Ministry of the Interior, which resulted in embezzlement. Even so, the president was reluctant to provide further details.
