Next Year, Indoxxi Cannot Be Accessed
JAKARTA - The manager of the streaming movie-watching site, Indoxxi, announced that it would close the site starting January 1, 2020. The announcement was uploaded on the page, which has been renamed http://103.194.171.75/. So far, the site has changed domains several times.
"It's very hard, but, it must be done, thanks to all of our loyal viewers, starting January 1, 2020 we will stop showing films on this website," read the announcement on the Indoxxi page.
The hashtag #indoxxi this morning tops the Twitter microblogging platform in Indonesia.
Indoxxi said the reason for the closure of the site was "to support and advance the country's creative industry". Currently the site is still accessible with the keyword "indoxxi.com", users will be automatically redirected to the site.
The existence of this pirated streaming site is considered to be deadly to Indonesia's creative industry. Because, of the 63 percent who accessed streaming websites or torrent sites, 62 percent said they had canceled all or part of their subscriptions to legal pay TV services.
The Director General of Applications for the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, confirmed that he would eradicate intellectual property rights (IPR) violators by 2020. Since July 2019, Semuel admitted that more than 1,000 piracy websites and illegal application domains have been blocked by the Ministry of Communication and Information.
However, Semuel encountered difficulties in eradicating this pirated film site. Because, every time the Ministry of Communication and Information closes a site, the owner of the streaming website will appear with a new URL.
Kominfo will work together with the Directorate of Intellectual Property Rights of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, law enforcement and creative industry associations to tackle the illegal circulation of works, including film and music streaming sites.
"In the digital era, property (copyright) must be protected. If not, people are lazy to create," said Semuel while asking people to listen to music and watch movies by accessing legal streaming services.
