Heavy Rain Causes School Collapse In Bangkalan
BANGKALAN - Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds caused the Tlagah State Elementary School (SDN) building, Bangkalan Regency, Madura, East Java.
"The building that collapsed was in two classes, namely class 1 and class 2, namely SDN Tlagah I, Galis District, Bangkalan. The condition was almost razed to the ground," said Regional Coordinator (Korwil) of Galis District Elementary School, Bangkalan Abdul Wahid quoted by Antara, Friday, December 3.
He explained that the collapsed elementary school building was in a cracked condition, so that when there was heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, it immediately collapsed.
"Fortunately, the time of the incident was not during teaching and learning activities," said Wahid.
The school has reported the incident to the Bangkalan Regency Education and Culture Office and the Bangkalan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
According to the Head of BPBD (Kalaksa) of Bangkalan Regency Government, Rizal Moris, the disaster in the form of a collapsing school building was one of the types of disasters that occurred in Bangkalan after heavy rains accompanied by winds lashed the area from Thursday, December 2 morning to evening.
Apart from collapsing school buildings, other types of natural disasters that also occurred in Bangkalan were floods.
"The flood-affected area is in Blega, Bangkalan," he said.
The flooding that occurred in Blega Bangkalan was due to the overflow of the river and inundated the highway connecting Bangkalan Regency with Sampang Regency.
The height of the puddle was between 20 to 40 cm, and caused a number of motorized vehicles to stall.
