Kuala Lumpur City FC Wins Malaysia Cup, Government Closes Activities In 3 Cities

JAKARTA - The Malaysian government has announced that activities in three cities, namely Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan, will be closed on Friday to celebrate the success of the Kuala Lumpur City FC team in winning the 2021 Malaysia Cup.

"Yesterday the Kuala Lumpur City FC Team won the 2021 TM Malaysia Cup Final at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium," Malaysian Federal Minister Shahidan Kassim said in a statement to the media in Putrajaya, Wednesday quoted by Antara.

According to him, the victory is the best achievement for Kuala Lumpur City FC after waiting 32 years. The team last won the Malaysia Cup in 1989.

"Therefore, it is informed that the government has agreed that Friday, December 3, 2021 is designated as an Additional Holiday for the Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan Federal Territories," he added.

This Additional Public Holiday Announcement is made pursuant to paragraph 9 (2) of the Public Holidays Act 1951 [Law 369] for the Federal Territory.

Kuala Lumpur City FC defeated Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) 2-0 in the 2021 Malaysia Cup final at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday night.

Kuala Lumpur City FC's winning goals were scored by midfielder Zhafri Yahya in the 66th minute and Captain Paulo Josue (74th minute) at the same time creating glory for the City Boys squad and ending the 32-year wait to win the Malaysia Cup.

Meanwhile for JDT, this defeat made the team nicknamed the Southern Tiger Squad fail to defend the championship it won in 2019.
