5 Tsunami Detector Devices In The South Cianjur Sea Are Damaged
CIANJUR - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Cianjur, West Java, noted that five Tsunami Early Warning System (TEWS) detectors installed in the southern sea of Cianjur were no longer functioning due to damage due to age and weather, since the last four years.
Secretary of the Cianjur BPBD, Rudi Wibowo, said the tsunami detectors installed several years ago by BNPB were installed on three beaches in three sub-districts in the southern region, namely Cidaun, Sindangbarang and Agrabinta sub-districts.
"The device was installed several years ago, but since the last four years it has been damaged and not functioning. We cannot repair it because it belongs to BNPB," he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 1.
Rudi explained that the tool was damaged because it was rotten after eating and weather factors, so it could not function. His party has reported this, so far, there has been no fix or definite answer from BNPB when the tsunami detector will be repaired.
"We are only monitoring the detection equipment provided by BNPB. Since the equipment was installed on the southern coast of Cianjur, it has not been accompanied by a handover, so we don't know what to do, even though tsunami detection equipment is urgently needed," he said.
Not only in Cianjur, he added, the damage to the tsunami early detection equipment also occurred in various regions in Indonesia. So to anticipate the tsunami, his party has installed evacuation route signs and is conducting disaster mitigation education in areas prone to tsunami disasters on the south coast of Cianjur.
"We continue to intensify alerts, especially residents on the coast who are observant in reading natural signs and are asked to evacuate when they see natural signs of an impending disaster, including a tsunami. We also alert volunteers to monitor and monitor the situation on the coast," said Rudi.
