National Commission For Disabilities Formed, Risma: With This Commission My Burden Has Been Reduced
JAKARTA - Minister of Social Affairs Tri Risma Harini said the establishment of the National Commission for Disabilities would help her in alleviating the problems faced by people with disabilities.
"With this commission my burden is reduced. In the past, apart from providing assistance to people with disabilities, I also had to take care of the homeless, socially disabled, not to mention alleviating poverty," Risma said at a joint press conference with the National Disability Commission in Jakarta, Wednesday, December 1st.
Risma hopes that this commission will help realize her dream so that people with disabilities can receive education in public schools. In addition, this commission is expected to contribute to the development of the interests and talents of each person with a disability.
"That's what we encourage. Nothing is impossible, anyone can do it, I always think so," said Risma.
He also hopes that the National Commission for Disabilities can also encourage the opening of opportunities for people with disabilities to prove that disability is not a barrier. The reason is that currently people with disabilities have become assemblers of assistive devices for people with disabilities which are distributed by the Ministry of Social Affairs.
"I believe that in the future the industrial world will not see disability as a problem anymore, but it must be shown, it must be proven. We must open up opportunities or provide opportunities for them to prove it," he said. as Chairman and concurrently member, Deka Kurniawan, as deputy chairman and member, Eka Prastama Widiyanta as member, and Kikin Purnawirawan Tarigan Sibero as member.
In addition, there is Fatimah Asri Mutmainah as a member, Jonna Aman Damanik as a member, and Rachmita Maun Harahap as a member.
On the same occasion, President Jokowi's Special Staff, Angkie Yudistia, who is also deaf, said that the formation of the National Commission for Disabilities was the implementation of Law Number 8 of 2016 concerning Persons with Disabilities which was strengthened by Presidential Regulation Number 68 of 2020 concerning the Establishment of the National Commission for Disabilities.
The formation of the National Commission for Disabilities began in early December 2020 when the government began to arrange a working committee for its formation.
"This is clear evidence that the government clearly and firmly pays attention to respecting and protecting disability rights," he said.
