In The Aftermath Of The Death Of Jakarta Veterans Menwa UPN Member Fauziah Nabila, Deputy Governor Riza Asks For Training Not To Be Dominated By Physical

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria asked that all forms of education and training, including Menwa not be dominated by physical activities.

This was conveyed by Deputy Governor Riza in response to the death of member of the Student Regiment (Menwa) of the Jakarta Veterans National Development University (UPNVJ) Fauziah Nabila (Lala).

"We ask that all forms of education and training prioritize persuasive activities, there should not be elements of violence or (more) highlight physical activities. Physical activity is needed, but it must not be dominant," Riza said in Jakarta as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 1st.

Riza also expressed his condolences for the death of Lala who breathed her last while undergoing a beret after a 10-15 kilometer (km) long march.

"Of course we are saddened by the death of the UPN student who took part in the Menwa march in Sentul. Hopefully, the person concerned is khusnul khatimah, the family has also been sincere and willing," said the Menwa National Commander.

Riza fully handed over the case to the campus to be followed up. As far as he knows, the raid was done with the permission of the parents and the campus. Before undergoing the long march, Lala was said to be in good health and had no history of any illness.

"The person concerned has been checked and it turns out that there was no element of violence or beatings. So it was purely because he was sick by chance in these activities," he said.

In the aftermath of Lala's death, a number of UPNVJ students held a demonstration on the Jalan Fatmawati Hospital campus, Pondok Labu, South Jakarta, Tuesday, November 30 yesterday.

Deputy Chairperson of the UPNVJ Student Consultative Council (MPM), Ivano Julius said that there were at least five demands against the campus rector and the Menwa. First, a detailed chronological explanation regarding Menwa's disbandment that led to Lala's death.

Second, demanding institutional responsibility from Menwa. Third, the matter of activity permits. Fourth, demanding the rectorate to dissolve Menwa and fifth, strongly condemning Menwa's actions.

Ivano assessed that there was a procedural defect carried out by Menwa because there was no guarantee of health rights for students who took part in the beret.
