Police Investigate Cargo Ship Fire In Cilacap

SEMARANG - The police are investigating the cause of the fire on the cargo ship MT Sumantri Brodjonegoro transporting fertilizer that caught fire in the waters of Cilacap, Central Java.

Director of Polairud Polda Central Java Kombes Raden Setijo Nugroho said the fire that burned the ship was difficult to extinguish.

"It's been on and there are no casualties," he said in Semarang quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 1.

According to him, the investigation will only be carried out if the condition of the ship is completely safe and the fire has extinguished.

"Further investigations will determine whether the fire was due to negligence or intentional elements," he said.

The investigation will be carried out by the Cilacap Police Polair Unit with the support of the Central Java Regional Police.

Previously, it was reported that a cargo ship caught fire around Pertamina's special dock in Cilacap waters, Wednesday morning.
