MPR Asks Jokowi To Remove Sri Mulyani Due To Budget Cuts, Formappi: How Childish
JAKARTA - A researcher at the Parliamentary Concerned Community Forum (Formappi), Lucius Karus, satirized the MPR leadership who urged President Joko Widodo to fire Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.
According to him, the attitude of the MPR leadership is childish. The MPR, he said, seemed to have lost the spirit of statesmanship because they only thought about the interests of their own institutions and asked Jokowi to remove Sri Mulyani just because her agency's budget was cut.
"Because of the reduction in the MPR budget, the President was asked to remove the Minister of Finance? Why is that so childish," Lucius told reporters, Wednesday, December 1. With this attitude, Lucius considered, the MPR was only using the institution to intimidate other officials. "Don't take advantage of the institution to intimidate other officials, especially for reasons that look more sentimental," said Lucius. Lucius said that Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani certainly had a reason to cut the MPR budget. Apart from COVID-19, according to him, because the performance of the MPR in 2021 did not reach the target. So the Minister of Finance gave a kind of punishment by reducing the MPR budget. "It is true that the budget must be based on performance. Institutions with unsatisfactory performance deserve to be punished by cutting their budget," said Lucius.
