The Ministry Of Social Affairs Strengthens Strategy For Fulfilling The Rights Of Persons With Disabilities
JAKARTA - Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini said the Ministry of Social Affairs would strengthen three strategies to fulfill the rights of persons with disabilities as part of the commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (HDI) 2021.
"The Ministry of Social Affairs takes sides with people with disabilities by strengthening three strategies, namely strengthening an inclusive environment, reducing inequality, and growing leadership from people with disabilities," said Risma as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 1.
According to Risma, an inclusive environment is needed so that people with disabilities can actively participate in various fields of life.
"The commemoration of HDI in 2021 must be a momentum to ensure that wherever you are, the environment must be friendly to people with disabilities," he said.
A friendly environment that provides fulfillment of the rights of persons with disabilities is expected to be expanded not only in the realm of public facilities but also in education. The reason is that education is a constitutional right of citizens. "I hope that public schools can also accept people with disabilities. This is my dream because I believe, behind a person's shortcomings, there are also advantages. I believe that our brothers and sisters with disabilities are not inferior to non-disabled people "said the Minister of Social Affairs.
In addition, the Ministry of Social Affairs together with other institutions and the wider community will continue to encourage young people with disabilities to become leaders in any field.
This is a form of acknowledgment that persons with disabilities are equal to other human beings and actively participate in various decision-making processes.
"Therefore, the commemoration of HDI in 2021 is not just a ceremony. But the momentum shows their real work, and how we ensure the creation of an environment that supports the fulfillment of their rights," he said.
The HDI 2021 commemoration internationally takes the theme “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world”. "
In the midst of a pandemic, the Ministry of Social Affairs is holding an HDl commemoration in 2021 by complying with health protocols that involve elements of the central and regional governments in a hybrid manner.
In addition to the exhibition, in the series of HDl celebrations in 2021, various activities were held, namely publications and outreach, webinar series, handing over of attention assistance, inclusion celebrations, social counseling and painting, as well as the HDI Peak event in 2021, namely the inauguration of the National Commission for Disability (KND) commissioners.
