Playing Consistently And Pressing So Greysia/Apriyani Kills Opponents On The First Day Of WTF 2021
JAKARTA - Greysia Polii/Apriyani Rahayu became the first Indonesian representatives to secure victory in the 2021 World Tour Finals (WTF) tournament. The good results achieved by the women's doubles cannot be separated from their consistent and pressing performances.
The first day of the WTF 2021 held a duel between Greysia/Apriyani and representatives of Thailand, Jongkolphan Kititharakul/Rawinda Prajongjai. Joined in Group A, the second duel will take place at the Bali International Convention Center on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 afternoon.
As the first Indonesian representative, Greysia/Apriyani played a pretty fierce match against Kitithatakul/Prajongjai. Luckily, the struggle of the Indonesian representatives for 37 minutes bore fruit with a 21-14, 21-12 victory.
Regarding his success in turning off the opponent's steps in the inaugural match, Apriyani admitted that all of that could not be separated from their discipline, they followed the coach's direction. Consistent appearance and pressing is also the main key.
"The key to victory is in the pattern of play that is in accordance with the coach's strategy," said Apriyani in a statement received by VOI, Wednesday, December 1.
"Anyway, we played consistently and kept pressing until the opponent didn't develop his game," continued Apriyani.
Meanwhile, for Greysia, this result made her grateful because no injuries were experienced despite strong resistance.
"We are grateful that we were able to pass the match unscathed. Not only here, but other matches as well," said Greysia after the match.
Greysia also added that the match against Kititharakul/Prajongjai was indeed not easy. Even though on a head-to-head basis, Greysia/Apriyani are still leading 7-1, they still need to be vigilant against the Thai representative.
"Earlier, the match was quite tight, although in the end we were able to win. We have to prepare a mental match to be able to compete at the World Tour Finals level," said Greysia.
