This Mass Group Asks Military Apparatus To Immediately Remove From Cendrawasih Earth

JAKARTA - Dozens of people from the Indonesian People's Front for West Papua (FRIWP) who had held an action to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the declaration of independence for West Papua every December 1 at the Horse Statue, Jalan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta, finally dispersed.

The demonstrators were seen carrying a number of banners and posters that read "The 1969 Act is not democratic, Free West Papua and Referendum or Vanished".

In his oration, FRIWP said, there were three main demands addressed to the central government along with the momentum of this December 1st.

First, they demanded that the government immediately withdraw the military personnel deployed on Earth of Cendrawasih.

Second, the mass demonstrations also asked the government to revoke the extension of the Special Autonomy Law (Otsus). This is because, according to the crowd, the Special Autonomy Law has never truly represented the expectations of the Papuan people.

"Third, give the West Papuan the right to self-determination," said one of the orators at the location, Wednesday, December 1.

Traffic that had been closed with barricades was finally able to be passed by vehicles again. Traffic flow is slowly returning to normal.
