Revitalize Indie Short Films, Kemenparekraf Launches Family Sunday Movie Festival!
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy through the Directorate of Music, Film and Animation launched the Family Sunday Movie (FSM), a short film festival. FSM is a form of appreciation for local film industry players throughout Indonesia.
Starting January 2022, film makers from all regions of Indonesia can register their works in the form of short films/documentary films with the theme of family, comedy, heroics, nationalism, sports, inspiration, motivation, education, environment, and social affairs with a background in Tourism and the Indonesian Creative Economy.
For two films that are selected every month, they are entitled to participate in the “Family Sunday Movie Festival” award event which is held every year.
For the first time, the Family Sunday Movie will be launched online on November 29, 2021, complete with the screening of two short films of the Official Selection Festival Family Sunday Movie 2022 titled 'Krenteg' by director Marjo Klengkam Sulam, produced by the Community of Desa Cinema Kepunduhan and 'We' by director Aco. Tenriyagelli, production of Riuh Records.
Followed by a virtual discussion with the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno and 50 regional short film communities, also enlivened by Tumpal Tampubolon as writer and director of short films and Darius Sinathrya, actor and film activist. The entire series of events was broadcast live through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy's YouTube channel.
Family Sunday Movie is a manifestation of the commitment of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy / Tourism and Creative Economy Agency to facilitate, expand the network of filmmakers, and support the local film community.
Including giving birth to a new generation that will become the driving force for the creative industry in Indonesia. The spirit of the Family Sunday Movie Festival is to become a forum for local film actors to produce quality original works.
With the launch of the Family Sunday Movie Festival, it is hoped that it will become a concrete solution for film communities in the regions, re-invent the short film community, become a creative arena to display local wisdom, build independence, open up space for expression for the local film maker community to have publication media facilitated by the local community. Through this activity, filmmakers can also learn to distribute their work which will improve the quality of the community so that they can create wide employment opportunities for their respective regions.
