Mimika Police Tighten Security To Anticipate KKB Interference Ahead Of RI's Anniversary

JAKARTA - The Mimika Police Resort, Papua continues to coordinate with PT Freeport Indonesia's National Vital Objects Security Task Force and other related units.

This is done to anticipate security disturbances by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) ahead of the 75th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence on 17 August.

Mimika Police Chief AKBP IGG Era Adhinata, said that security along the route of the Freeport mine road from the lowlands to the Mimika highlands would be tightened. Of course, to prevent the KKB from creating security disturbances ahead of the Republic of Indonesia's Anniversary commemoration.

"What is clear is that for security to welcome August 17, we will coordinate with all related units and elements to tighten security along the PTFI route, so that they do not interfere with the August 17 celebration," said AKBP Era Adhinata as quoted by Antara, Monday, August 10.

He said that from the monitoring carried out by the authorities, the last combination of KKB cards from various regions was detected in the Tembagapura District area, precisely in the Baluni and Jagamin areas.

In recent weeks, the two locations have been hit by landslides and flash floods.

"They are allegedly still in the landslide area in Jagamin and Baluni. They are there. The possibility that they will move to another location, we anticipate that," said Era.

According to Era, landslides accompanied by flash floods in the Jagamin and Baluni areas as well as several other villages in the Aroanop area recently did not cause any casualties.

The Mimika Regency Government together with community and religious leaders have sent food aid to help the affected residents in several villages.

However, until now, security forces, both TNI and Polri, have not been able to visit the disaster site, especially in Jagamin and Baluni.

"We avoided excess gunfire with the KKB group in Aroanop," he said.

Welcoming the Indonesian Independence Day celebration this year, the Mimika Police Chief appealed to local residents to celebrate the state celebration by displaying red and white flags and banners in homes, government offices, shops and others, including on motorized vehicles.

Mimika Police will also work with the National Police Noken Binmas Team to hold social services in several places around the City of Timika, and provide basic food assistance to residents affected by the flash flood disaster in several locations in the Mimika lowland area.

"The celebration of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia this year may not be as busy as the previous years, because we are still in a COVID-19 pandemic situation. Of course, activities that are mass gathering will be eliminated, such as a cultural carnival. will also be limited. However, all of that does not diminish our wisdom and gratitude for the gift of independence that God has bestowed on the Indonesian nation and state for 75 years, "said Era.
