1,400 DPUBMP Task Force Alerted To Handle Floods In Surabaya

SURABAYA - A total of 1,400 Task Forces of the Public Works Department of Highways and Termination (DPUBMP) Surabaya City, East Java. prepared to deal with flooding.

"During the rainy season, the Task Force is on standby for 24 hours," said Head of the Pematuan Division of the Public Works Department of Highways and Pematuan (DPUBMP) of the City of Surabaya Eko Yuli Prasetya, quoted by Antara, Thursday, November 25.

According to him, the 1,400 personnel who were alerted consisted of the dredging task force, heavy equipment operators, to the nesting staff (garbage) at the pump house.

When the rainy season comes, he continued, his party is focused on strengthening personnel in 62 pump houses and cleaning channels.

"Especially for the nesting power in the pump houses, it must not allow garbage to enter the pump," he said.

Eko said that the handling of the inundation was carried out by looking at each case of problems, for example, by looking at the capacity of the channel, the height of the mud sediment to the clogging of garbage.

"So the handling of inundation is seen from the case. For example, from the condition of the channel. If the capacity of the channel is small, we will increase it, or if there is sediment, we will do the dredging (normalization)," said Eko.

In the last few days, he said, the intensity of rain has indeed been quite high in the city of Surabaya. This is as early information submitted by BMKG Juanda regarding the warning of rain with moderate to high intensity which is predicted to occur on November 23-25, 2021.

"So recently there was high intensity rainfall. There were puddles in the Lontar, Wiyung and Lebak Permai (Gading Village) areas," he said.

He explained that for the handling of puddles in the Lontar area, the solution was carried out comprehensively, starting from upstream by making two bozems, raising bridges to regulating water flow at the pump house. The handling was as instructed by the Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi.

"The mayor when he visited there (Lontar), directed the construction of a bozem (water reservoir) in Dukuh Hulu. Then the elevation of the bridge on Jalan Raya Lontar and the regulation of water discharge. So it is more comprehensive regarding the handling in Lontar," said Eko.

Meanwhile, for handling in other areas, said Eko, it is still carried out per spot according to the problem case, for example around Lake Unesa, Lidah Wetan Campus, Lakarsantri District, handling is carried out by building crossing channels.

"At Unesa yesterday, the water also overflowed the reservoir, it was in the spot around the Unesa reservoir. So then we used crossing to handle it," he said.

The municipal government also carried out the same handling to overcome the inundation that occurred in the ketintang area. There, the city government built a box culvert to solve the inundation problem.

"There is a box culvert channel in South Ketintang, we are doing that," said Eko.
