Handling Floods In Medan City, Bobby Nasution Considers Making A Retention Pool

MEDAN - Floods that hit most areas in the city of Medan became a hit. Flooding is caused by the inability of drainage to accommodate water due to heavy rain.

As a result, water from the drainage overflowed and inundated a number of protocol roads. In addition, several locations such as malls and residential areas were also submerged.

Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution responded to this condition. Bobby has reviewed the flood points and saw the problems that occurred.

"We see some drainage problems, there are still problems so we look at them to find a solution. We have communicated this with the regional, sub-district and urban areas with the Public Works Office," said Bobby Nasution on Thursday, November 25.

He explained that in dealing with flooding and improving drainage, his party would look at all the problems from upstream to downstream.

"We collaborate to see the problem from upstream and downstream. If drainage repairs must be from upstream to downstream. We have a river whose downstream is not in the city of Medan, so we repair our drainage, if the downstream is not repaired it will cause flooding," he said.

"For example, we enlarge the ditch but we don't enlarge the ditch downstream. It's the same with the queue (water) here," he continued.

Bobby Nasution said that his party is currently reviewing several options to regulate the flow of water from the drainage into the river. One of them, by creating several retention ponds in several locations.

"How to regulate the flow of water into the river, if we make a retention pond, we will build it. I have reviewed several points that can be used as retention ponds," he said.

To create a retention pool, Bobby Nasution admitted that he had discussed it with the sub-district heads, the Perkim Office and the Public Works Office.

"I have communicated with the sub-district head, Perkim, PU to be able to negotiate whether we can make a retention pond before entering the river. From the drainage we enter the river, the river overflows the same way. So we collect the water first," said Bobby Nasution.
