Jokowi Brings Good News: The World's Largest Green Industrial Area Starts Construction In December 2021 In Kaltara
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) brings good news. He stated the construction of the world's largest green industrial park in North Kalimantan (Kaltara) Province in December 2021.
Jokowi explained that the area of land that will be developed into a green industrial area is 30 thousand hectares (ha), up from the initial estimate in the range of 13 thousand hectares. He said this increase was due to the high demand for green energy both in Indonesia and globally.
"Next month we will start building a green industrial park in North Kalimantan, regarding the area of approximately a week ago the figure was only 13 thousand hectares. Yesterday I received information because the demand for green products is increasing, we will expand it to 30 thousand hectares," he said at the opening BI 2021 annual meeting, Wednesday 24 November.
Jokowi previously disclosed the development of the green industrial area at the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland, last Monday 1 November.
In his speech, Jokowi said this region utilizes green energy as a source of energy to drive industry. Not only using green energy, the industry in it will also produce new renewable energy (EBT).
"The development of clean energy-based industries includes the construction of the world's largest green industrial area in North Kalimantan," said Jokowi.
Jokowi explained that Indonesia has a very large green energy power. For example, for hydro power plants, Indonesia has 4,400 rivers that can be utilized.
So many, Jokowi admitted that he did not know the exact calculation of how much water energy could be produced. What he knows is that hydropower from the Kayan River, North Kalimantan, can produce 13 thousand megawatts (MW). Then, the Mamberamo River hydropower plant in Sarmi Regency, Papua, has a potential of 24 thousand MW.
