KPK Asks Papuan Regional Government To Immediately Do Land Certification
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Alexander Marwata asked for the acceleration of the certification of land assets owned by the Papua Regional Government (Pemda) immediately.
The aim is to prevent state and regional financial losses due to land ownership being transferred to unauthorized parties.
He conveyed this when giving a speech at the Coordination Meeting for the Supervision of the Integrated Prevention of Corruption in the Papua Region, at the Governor's Office, Tuesday, November 23.
"This is all for legal certainty as an investment requirement," Alexander said as quoted from his written statement, Wednesday, November 24.
He said the problems of each region related to asset management were different from one another. For this reason, the KPK recommends the establishment of a legal and recognized customary institution to act on behalf of the Papuan people.
Moreover, Papua is known to have a special culture and its status is now a special autonomous region. "The hope is that there will be no repeated land claims or cases," said Alexander.
Furthermore, he reminded each regional head that they have an interest in encouraging investment in their region. It aims to create jobs and improve the welfare of its citizens.
"You have an interest in encouraging investment as a way for development in the region that can create jobs and improve welfare," Alexander concluded.
