Acehnese Hero Admiral Malahayati Becomes The Name Of A Street In Jakarta, Governor Of Nova Appreciates Anies
BANDA ACEH - The Aceh government is grateful to the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government for making the name of Admiral Malahayati, a hero from Aceh, the name of one of the streets in the capital city of Jakarta.
"On behalf of the Aceh Government and the Acehnese people, I thank the DKI Jakarta Government, in particular the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan who has initiated the naming of the Aceh Hero Street, Admiral Malahayati, or Admiral Keumalahayati," said the Governor of Aceh, Nova Iriansyah in a virtual event in Jakarta. The statement was conveyed on the sidelines of the inauguration of the name Jalan Laksamana Malahayati at the Great Hall, DKI Jakarta City Hall.
Governor Nova explained that Admiral Malahayati was a woman warrior who came from the Sultanate of Aceh in fighting against the invaders.
"In 1585-1604, Admiral Malahayati held the positions of Head of the Guards Palace, Commander of Secrets and Commander of Government Protocol from Sultan Saidil Mukammil Alauddin Riayat Syah IV," he said.
According to history, Malahayati led 2,000 people in the Inong Balee troops (widows of martyred heroes) to fight against Dutch ships and forts on September 11, 1599 while killing Cornelis de Houtman in a one-on-one battle on the ship's deck.
“From the struggle of Keumala Hayati, we should serve as an example, especially for today's young generation. Many lessons can be learned from his struggle. A woman who is persistent and courageous in repelling colonialism," he said.
Chairman of the Central Management of Taman Iskandar Muda (TIM) Jakarta, Dr. Ir. Surya Dharma, MBA also expressed his gratitude to the Governor of DKI Jakarta for taking the initiative and appreciating one of Aceh's heroes, Admiral Keumala Hayati.
“Admiral Malahayati was the first general in the world, a woman who became commander-in-chief of the navy. Because until now there are no more warlords in the world,” he said.
Therefore, the award given by the Government of Indonesia, then enshrined by the DKI Government on a road, is a tribute to the Hero who came from Aceh.
Meanwhile, the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, said that the role of Admiral Malahayati in dealing with the invaders deserves to be appreciated so that his name is dedicated.
“The struggle given to this nation is extraordinary. A woman who is brave and persistent in leading the war," he said.
Anies said that his name should be made permanent on one of the roads from Jakarta to Bekasi which is estimated to be around 7.6 kilometers long which crosses Pondok Kelapa Village, Duren Sawit Village, Pondok Bambu Village, Duren Sawit Subdistrict and Cipinang Muara Village, Cipinang Besar Selatan Village, Jatinegara District, East Jakarta.
"Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, today, November 23, 2021, the name Jalan Laksamana Malahayati is officially opened," Anies said. or the mosques of each of the Cut Mutia Mosque, Cut Nyak Dien Mosque, Teuku Umar Street, Panglima Polim Street, and Teungku Chik Street in Tiro.
He said the permanent name of this hero is a form of respect given to them, because they have fought against the invaders.
The name change of the street is based on Governor's Decree no. 1242 of 2021 concerning the Determination of the Name of the Admiral Malahayati Street, replacing the name of the northern side of the Kalimalang Inspection Street.
