Mayor Eri Cahyadi Asks Schools In Surabaya To Hold PTM With Strict Procedures

SURABAYA - Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi asked all schools in the City of Heroes, East Java, both elementary and junior high schools to hold face-to-face learning (PTM) with strict health protocols (prokes).

"So, I want all schools in Surabaya to be opened, starting from elementary to middle school. I want to meet face-to-face (PTM). But I have to carry out the assessment first, if you pass the assessment, it will be opened. " said Mayor Eri Cahyadi as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, November 23.

He emphasized that currently it is permissible or not to open schools, not because the Surabaya City Government forbids them. However, the city government tries to ensure that the school has carried out an assessment and received approval from the parents or guardians of the students before implementing the PTM.

"Children who join PTM must go through the approval of their parents, although a few who enter must still be held PTM," he said.

Mayor Eri Cahyadi also explained that after passing the assessment, each school had to do a simulation. After the simulation is considered successful, the school is allowed to open and carry out PTM.

"Therefore, from now on we are learning to apply prokes. God willing, I will make sure again that there must be permission from the parents. If I say it is open today, yes it should be able to open today, even though there are 5 to 10 students, yes we can open. If we are sure to do this (PTM), I'm sure others will join. If no one is sure, when will it start?," he explained.

In addition, Eri Cahyadi also emphasized the importance of the role of school principals and teachers in maintaining and supervising the progress of their students while at school. He also reminded the parents to take part in supervising their children after attending PTM at school.

"Because to maintain this (prokes) I can't do it alone. I ask for understanding. Why? Later there will be an assumption that there is a school cluster, even though the children themselves don't wear masks when they play outside. It's not fair either," he said.

The former Head of the Surabaya City Development Planning Agency (Bappeko) hopes that before the school opens, he asks the citizens of Surabaya to educate themselves about the importance of maintaining health promotion.

Not only that, Eri Cahyadi also wants parents, principals and teachers of elementary and junior high schools throughout Surabaya, to participate in educating their children before attending PTM at school.

"In fact, I educate myself. Come on, all Surabaya residents educate themselves, all parents, teachers, school principals and all educate. Let's go together, we can't blame each other for this (implementing prokes). God willing, we can, " he said.
