Landslide In Sukabumi Broken Yaspida Islamic Boarding School, 11-Year-Old Santri Killed Buried
JABAR - The Yaspida Islamic boarding school (Islamic boarding school) male dormitory in Sukabumi Regency, West Java was affected by a landslide. One student in the hostel died.
"When the landslide occurred, the victim, known to have the initials MA (11) was fast asleep in room number 4 of the Wadil Quro Dormitory Ponpes Yaspida Sukabumi, so he could not save himself when the soil material piled him up," said Cisaat District Disaster Management Officer (P2BK), Imam Ismail to journalists in Sukabumi, Antara, Monday, November 22.
According to information gathered from Cisaat P2BK officers, this incident began when a cliff of approximately 10 meters high, which was directly behind the boys' dormitory, suddenly collapsed. The avalanche material immediately broke into room number 4 which was inhabited by 13 students, including the victim. At the time of the incident, all the students who lived in the room were asleep.
Hearing the roar, the students rushed to escape. However, the victim was fast asleep so he did not have time to save himself. The students and boarders of the Islamic boarding school tried to save the life of the 11-year-old student, but the victim was already dead.
According to Ismail, the cliff collapsed due to water seepage which caused the soil to become cracked and unstable. Until now, they are still doing the assessment.
"The bodies of the victims have been handed over to their families for burial, while the loss due to the landslide is still being calculated, because not only dormitories were damaged, but a number of students' belongings were also damaged by being buried in the soil," he added.
Meanwhile, according to a statement from one of the students who shared the same room as the victim, initially there was water seepage into the dormitory even though it was not raining at that time, the students did not suspect that the cliff directly behind the dormitory would collapse.
Suddenly the ground broke into his room and immediately hoarded the students' clothes and belongings. The situation became even more panicked after it was discovered that M Arsyad, who was sleeping soundly, was buried and found dead.
