PPKM Level 3 Christmas And New Year Rejected By Tourism Actors, Jokowi Reminds Of Rising Cases In Europe

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo asked all his staff to properly communicate the implementation of PPKM Level 3 during the 2021 Christmas and 2022 New Year holiday periods.

"Regarding the plan for implementing PPKM Level 3 throughout Indonesia this Christmas and New Year, it is necessary to communicate it well to the public," said Jokowi while chairing a limited meeting on the evaluation of PPKM, Monday, November 22.

Jokowi responded to the rejection of a number of parties, especially tourism players regarding the implementation of PPKM Level 3 starting from December 24, 2021 to January 2, 2022.

Therefore, Jokowi emphasized that the public must know that countries in Europe are currently experiencing a spike in cases. Some of them even isolate their citizens who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19.

"Tell us about the development of the increase in cases in Europe. This is very important as a background for the decisions we will take because there are indeed some who reject the implementation of PPKM Level 3, because they really want the situation to return to normal," said Jokowi.

Jokowi understands that the economic condition of the tourism sector, especially in Bali, will return when mobility is tightened.

He emphasized that economic conditions would worsen if the spike in cases occurred because the government was forced to apply the emergency brake.

"We have to remember that anything, especially tourism in Bali is indeed the most affected but also needs to be explained that if the situation is not under control, it will hit our economy and tourism back. Moreover, we will host 150 meetings at the G20," explained Jokowi. .

"Therefore, I ask for intervention in the field to be carried out by the Task Force (COVID-19) for existing events," he added.
