A Fishing Boat In The Waters Of The Nasik Belitung Strait Caught Fire, 2 People Were Taken To The Hospital

JAKARTA - The fishing boat KM Sabang experienced a fire accident in the waters of Mendanau Island, Nasik Strait District, Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Saturday morning.

The head of the Belitung Police Satpolair, AKP M. Syarifudin Ginting in Tanjung Pandan, said the fire was thought to have been caused by sparks from the engine room.

"So that two crew members (ABK) suffered serious burns almost all over their bodies due to being completely exposed to fire from the engine room," Syarifudin said, quoting Antara, Saturday, November 20.

KM. Sabang is a fishing vessel currently carrying out fishing activities in the waters of Mendanau Island, Nasik Strait, Belitung.

Syarifudin said, as a result of the fire, two crew members were reported to have suffered burns and 13 others managed to survive.

"Two victims have been rushed to the hospital for treatment and treatment," he said.

He added that previously the joint team received information about the ship fire incident in the waters of Mendanau Island from Basarnas.

Then a joint team consisting of Polairud Polda Babel, Satpolair Polres Belitung, Indonesian Navy, and the Port Health Office of the Tanjungpandan Pangkalpinang Working Area immediately went to the scene to evacuate.

"The location of the incident is about 15 nautical miles from the coast of Tanjung Pandan," he said.

He said that at this time the joint team was focused on evacuating and helping the crew members who were victims and would then ask for information from the crew regarding the incident.

"Meanwhile, the ship's position is still in the ocean because the engine is damaged," he said.
